I just bought a 98 SH last monday and I've got to say that although it is a nice get around town car, it isn't nearly as fast as I thought it would be. I don't know what I was expecting, but I feel a little cheated, 195hp my ass. I loved my 93 teg w/ a b18c swap and it was faster and more responsive than my new lude, even before I did any modifiying to the swapped motor. Does anyone else here feel my pain. I mean how do you go from claiming 195 crank hp to 157 whp. I'm not trying to piss anyone off by bashing the lude, I still like it, but I'm finding myself wanting my 99 F-150 back which got totaled on St Patricks day.

 

maybe cuz of ATTS? I am not sure though... get a lightened flywheel... it should be a lot more then 157WHP...

 

157/195=80%.. which translates into 20% loss.

20% drive train loss is actually very low.. Honda's are known to be efficient.


I feel your pain.. the SH is quite heavy.. hence the reason I drive an ITR now.

however, for the track/autox the SH is a great car to learn in

 

I was looking at some dyno sheets comparing the base 98 vtec prelude and the SH on another site (both stock) and was surprised to see that the base had a higher whp. I'm new to the H22, so can somebody tell me what the differences are between the two motors.

 

There is no difference at all between the 2 except that the SH has ATTS which causes it to be heavier. ATTS is a wheel control that controls understeer. The engine and everything else (except for some suspension differences because of the ATTS) is the same.

 

the ATTS tranny experiences a little more parasitic loss as it transfers torque to the wheels.

157 whp isn't bad. with the right bolt ons, a VAFC, and some tuning that number could be a lot closer to 180-190. Also, look into lightweight 15's or 16's and undersize the tires by a little bit and it'll feel much quicker.

the lude was never meant to be a straight line killer, esp the SH. but find the right combination of curves and you'll see it shine. take it to buttonwillow or the streets of willow and you'll enjoy it much more than you would gunning it at a light.

 

The Prelude is not a fast car. Your mistake to think it is. All Preludes make 190 horses, not 195-200. Honda fibbed and we bought it.

The car is more class than anything else. I still feel current driving mine.

 

yep, i know what you mean. I used to have a 95 eclipse gsx..awd turbo..stock tho. But just picked up my 98 prelude last nite. The speed was quite a bit slower then I had expected, but that does not matter to me anymore. This car has enough to get up and go when you need it, and is beautiful, and the interior is very nice, myne came with black leather interior that is mint, and i just love how the honda feels. this is my first honda, and I can notice every little thing that feels so solid on the car, and driving on the highway at 120 felt like nothing. But I love the car, im not too interested in speed, and accelartion anymore. It could be faster, but it is more of a classy car. i love it.

 

Not a fast car? I think my prelude is plenty fast.... To the guy dissapointed with his Prelude SH, buy a CAI, and a few other mods..it'll give you the extra ooomf you need..

BTW, my car is a 1997 Prelude base with an AEM CAI, and a lightweight flywheel(only true mods) I dynoed 169whp...

Seems plenty fast to me....

 

My friends Base 2000 Prelude spanked my 90 5.0 gt hatch..With only an CAI and 2.73 in the mustang it's not to fast........But not really spanked but I was ahead..(in the beginning)..Once 30mph hit he started to pull away....In the end he would have won a quarter mile....Now I'm Selling my Mustang for a 2001 Prelude.

But I say screw the SH...Sorry for the owners but a LSD in the base model would be much better.

But my friends with CAI, headers, cat-back and some tien flex and new tires kept the can stuck to the ground and it hauled ass.....Faster than any ls or GSR I had been in.

But maybe I'm Crazy....
