Prelude as well. it would cost you 1/2 if not less then 1/2 the price to maintain, PLUS its a cheaper car to buy, put the difference you pay for the two into mods, and the Prelude will smoke the A4 easy

I'd go w/the Prelude because of the aftermarket support and readily available parts for the H22 motor and drivetrain.

My friend Warren had an S4 for a while. It was a blast at Summit Point, but the S4 is different from what you guys are talking about.

this thread is kinda useless unless we know more info on the lude/a4...

lets go with a 98 Audi A4 and a 4G prelude (so we can compare the different trims)

98 A4 1.8T, quattro or not VS 92-96 Prelude S = A4 wins
" " VS 92-96 Prelude SI = Close, but i'd say the SI wins
" " VS " " VTEC = Prelude VTEC

98 A4 2.8 will destroy a base 4G lude
98 A4 2.8 (Non quattro) will tie a 4G lude SI, 2.8 quattro will beat the SI
98 A4 2.8 (non-Q) will lose to a 4G lude VTEC, while the A4 2.8 quattro will either be a very close race, maybe a tie...OR the VTEC lude will win...

I used a 4G lude as an example b/c it has 2 other engines besides the h22...

From what I've seen.

The 1.8T has a much bigger after market than the H22. and for much bigger gains. a $400 chip will add 40hp and 40 lbs.

If you plan on modifying the car - the A4 1.8T Q is a much easier/cheaper platform to modify.

If you want a great car out of the box - then the prelude is one of the best period. (Thats why I bought it).

BTW - Im talking about the A4 B5 vs. the 5th Gen. - and they should be pretty close to the same price (97-99). Keep in mind that the money you spend on maintenance on the A4 you'll probably save in insurance. (so its a wash).

Racing where? Drag, race course? Very VERY unspecific... more details?

A4 is a fun street car IMO. If you spend some $$ on it, its a GREAT street car. But they are heavy compared to our relatively light Hondas, so on the track, I'd stay away.

Prelude is a great car for both applications (Track, street).

Drag? I have no idea, they are both slow. A4 has the ability to be ridiculously fast. I suppose any car does....

Street? Darwin will eventually get you, and if not, you have no credibility with me.
