B22A vs H22Ax Engines <-- What's the difference?
Just wondering what the difference between the two engine types there is, including which years of Preludes they were used in. Thanks!
Maybe he meant H22A vs H22Ax? Basically, all the ones after H22A are never versions of H22A with ECU upgraded to OBD2(96+), all the H22s have been updated to H22A4 since the release of the 5th gen Preludes.
the # after the h22a refers to the country......
all jdm h22's are h22a
92-96 usdm h22's were h22a1 (the 96 was obd2, the only obd2 closed deck h22a1)
97+ usdm h22's were h22a4.
all european h22's are h22a7

There's no such thing as a B22... or at least I've neer heard of it... If I'm not mistaken, B-series only came in 16,17, & 18.

i thought all the euro H22s were h22a8's???????
No such thing as a B22A, however I will assume he means the 90-91 'lude B21A.
The difference between the B21A and the H22A is everything. Litterally, every single peice is different, the mounting points are different, the transaxles are different, even all the electronics. The B21A is about as compatible with the H22A as it is a smallblock Chevy.

ive heard of h22a2 from france. some dude on HP.com a long time ago before it went boom. he provided pics at the time, unfortunately i dont think i have them anymore.
i know the:
h22a = 92+ jdm closed deck block OBD 1 (i think they went open deck/OBD2 with the JDM type-s motor starting in 98-99??)
h22a1 = 92-96 USDM closed deck block OBD 1 (like it was stated above, honda went OBD2 in 96 and also had a huge recall because of it)
h22a2 = apparently france or europe
h22a4 = USDM 97-01 5th gen prelude OBD2
h22a7 = accord euro-r (basically OBD2 type-s motor)
i have a whole list from a webpage a long time ago.
i may have it saved somewhere but no promises.
