New tires on, interesting side effect...
This is my third set of tires on my 98 SH. When I bought the car it had RE730's (which I loved except in rain/snow) and I replaced them with another set of RE730's. I managed to get 30K on them - I dont know if that is good or bad, but I wish they would have lasted longer. Anyway, this time around I did not feel like shelling out for the RE750's. Mainly for the cost and also because I will probably sell the Lude in about a year. I went with the Yokohama AVS ES100's. I have not driven on them enough to get a good feel for them, but there was one surprise. These tires are WAY quieter. I drove to work on the highway this AM and was stunned by how loud the engine was - now that the tires are not drowning it out. It was so loud I kept thinking I should shift - too bad I was already in 5th! We should have gotten a 6 speed on the lude....
Every honda needs a 6th gear. My old prelude would be running at 4k, at 80mph. My civic runs just a little under 4K at 80. If we only had a 6th gear and could drop it down to about 3,000 at 80mph it'd be a great car to take on longer trips.
Yea, but one advantage is that when you're going 80MPH and
running 4000RPM's you don't need to downshift to pass the
slow ass person in front of you. :snoopy:
Unless of course you want to blow off their doors in which case
4th gear comes in handy.
All kidding aside, I wonder how much better the gas milage would
be if we only had a 6 speed.
