Cracked Exhaust Manifold
there is a small crack in my exhaust manifold, and some black stuff (like when you burn something) was on the manifold cover. I dont know much about mechanics, so will this need to be replaced before the summer or can i just wait until i get an h22?
thanx for any help
Charlie
P.S. its an f22 with 144k and its the stock manifold.

That stuff you are talking about is carbon.
Replacing it is up to you, but remember that the exhaust gas coming out of that crack is usually between 1300 and 1500 degrees F. If that doesn't bother you, keep using it. I would replace it now if it was my car.

could i just put the cover back on and just wait for the h22 to come in, since im not gonna be driving it much until spring.

If the car is leaking gasoline, DO NOT RUN THE CAR! It is an incredible safety risk that can result in a full scale car-B-Q!
Check the fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, all the rubber hoses, pretty much the entire underhood fuel system. In most cases, fuel leaks will not make a puddle on the ground but will be very easy to smell.
Cheers!

Haynes manual is $20 NEW...eBay should be like half that or less.
But Kai is dead right on this - gas leaks, in this case possibly caused by some crazy exhaust heat, are easy to smell but not always easy to find. Especially if it's escaping in vapor form... won't pool, but it will be in the air.

when i had it checked out by a mechanic before i bought it he said the following should be replaced:
v.c gasket, ac compressor, spark plugs (it had champion plugs in it) and axle boots.
ps im lookin for some manuals right now,
thanx for the replies
