Default Please Help!!

Hello Everyone

Im new to the board. I own a 98 prelude and love reding posts on this board. I get lots of good info.

My main problem is this. I took my prelude to get the timing belt change about 3-4 months ago at a mechanic. He changed the timing belt and my car seemed to run fine but it just wasn't the same. The mechanic told me that the timing belt is new so the car will feel a little different. I don't have too much knowledge about cars. Im trying to learn so i took his word for it.

Now two days ago i was driving and my car started to make a rattling noise and my car cut off. It would start but only if i held the gas pedal down....

I took it to the same mechanic and he diagosed the problem. He told me that the "Sprocket" that holds the timing belt broke causing the timing belt to slacken. He is charging me to fix the problem.

My question is, do you think this guy make a mistake the first time and now trying to correct the problem.

He also says that the pistons might have damaged the valves which will be very expensive to fix.....

Please advise

omg..... isn't this about the auto tensioner if i'm not mistaking?? :jerkit: i'll see if i can get mark(thatpreludeguy) to explain this in better detail but to fix ur problem if ur timing belt went is a PIA...

IMO he had to do something wrong in order for ur timing belt to go... it just doesn't do that unless it was improperly installed...
