I have a Creative (the brand that makes sound cards) Nomad II player that seems right up your alley, and I haven't been using it lately. Unlike most, it also has a radio built in (at least unlike any when I got it). It works with smartmedia cards. Included is a 32MB card, but you can get a 64MB card for $18 or a 128MB card for $35.

It also has a wired remote, the kind that is in line with the headphones, and it runs for 10-12 hours on ONE FREAKIN AA BATTERY! []

Umm... that's what I can think of off hand, but its a very nice unit and I can get you pics of the exact one that I have (but I'm not at home). It's in great condition, I haven't used it very much at all...
