Pitcher's mindset with Thome up to bat
"try my hardest ... gotta get this guy out ... try my hardest ... gotta get this guy out ... "
Pitcher's mindset with Konerko up to bat
"phew ... Thome is gone ... time to ease up a bit"
You can't take a mental break with Konerko. You can't take a mental break with anyone before Thome, last thing you want is for Jim to hit a HR with the bases filled.
If Podsednik reaches, that will drive a pitcher insane. The threat of a stolen base is there ... now you have to deal with power sluggers.
On top of it, you have Dye sitting in the 5 hole. He's got some HR pop in his bat.
