I can't believe that the Ion is based on the same platform as the Astra is. Dang, Saturn really went the other way on that one...

It isn't. Originally, the Delta platform was to cover all GM compact cars, but then GM partnered up with Fiat, and they have a platform for European compacts (which Fiat, Opel, and Vauxhall will use) and then a platform American ones -- Delta. The Delta will be the basis of the next Cavalier, Sunfire?, HHR, and others (as well as the new ION).

True, the Z-28 was named because it was the next option code after Z-27, the original Z06(1963 I believe) was probably similarly named.

this is an Astra concept:


that would be pretty sweet as either the Cav or the Sunfire. Unfortunately, this is much nicer than anything GM will actually end up choosing.

BTW - I LOVE that Astra concept. I definately wouldn't mind having that.
