Default Mercedes-Benz Developing Seven-Speed Automatic

Apparently having two overdrives was not enough. Everyone needs to pull 1300rpm at 80mph.

The newly developed 7-speed automatic will debut in the 2005 Mercedes-Benz ML Class and will trickle down from there.

Apparently Mercedes-Benz is skipping the entire 6-speed auto phase and jumping two gears up from their current 5-speed auto.

this is overkill as the cvt is the next gen auto transmission for internal combustion engines (infinite gear ratio = no gear changes)...at MB rate they'll just be installing 15 speed diesel semi transmissions in their cars

Yeah. Apparently Mercedes-Benz has been given a lot of shit from loyal customers about how crappy the current ML is.

They're spending a lot more money on the upcoming replacement, so it should be several fold better.

Yeah, I never like the ML class. What even confused me more is that people actually buying the G class But the idea of 7 speed automatic is

The G-Class rules. Can't beat three locking differentials.Went to our Holloway Motor Cars in Manchester and they had a G55 AMG on the lot ($103,000 and change ). I wanted it.

What is the point of having a 7 speed automatic? 5 speed is enough come on European car companies.
