Corvette C6 prototypes spied testing
personally, i think they should keep the c5 around for a couple more years. i dont see how they could really improve on it as far as looks and performance. its still king of the hill in my eyes.
btw, is the XLR that ultra-fast cadillac? could someone fill me in on this one please.

The white paint makes it difficult to evaluate the form of the car, but so far, it's not too bad. The rear hatch glass looks more integrated into the form of the car; I'm definitely interested to see how this turns out.
I hope GM has fired Fisher-Price [:chuckles:] and fixed the cheap looking interior. It's really embarrassing, IMO.

Yeah it's more of an evolutionary change than from the C4 to the C5, but the C4 came out in 1984.
Now if only they made a fixed-roof version of the fastback body style, that would be nice. Hopefully the Z06 will be that, plus have something like 450 hp or so (perhaps 500 to compete with the Viper?). Either way, the performance of the thing is getting more and more phenomenal even in comparison to the rest of the market.

The Ford GT was'nt meant to compete with the Viper from the outset. The original GT40 was meant to compete against Ferrari, and this on is no different. As for the Vette and the Viper, GM is thinking of going head to head now in sort of a "why not?" sort of fashion. With the Viper having never been a sales threat to the Vette(they have sold maybe 15,000 Vipers since its inception, GM sold 35,000 vettes last model year) it has'nt been an issue, though many Vette fans think it should have. It should'nt be a big deal now with plans for a 500 hp in the works. THe only thing that needs to be addressed is acceleration, which is the Vipers only edge over the Vette now.
the viper and the vette are definitely competitors. and the GT is right in there with em. ferraris are in another league. its not really because of the price, but more because people in the market for domestic horse-metal are not cross shopping italian thorough-breds.
the GT may be percieved as a ferrari competitor in some circles, but i bet most of the buyers will be previous vette owners and the like.

Just because the GT has roughly 500 hp and is made in America does not make it a Viper or Corvette competitor.
The GT is a light weight mid engined supercar intended to compete with Ferrari, inspired by the original GT40 which was a light weight mid engined supercar intended to compete with Ferrari.
