2003 C&D Supertuner Challenge to be 4-cylinder only
I was looking in the S2000 forum over at that other Honda board, and someone brought up the topic of putting an F20C into a Miata. I suggested a Flyin' Miata turbo kit instead. I went to go check out Flyin' Miata's site and right on the front page it mentions how they're building up a Supertuner Challenge Miata.
Supposedly this year instead of being a competition among megabuck Corvettes, Vipers, Porsches and kit cars it is going to be limited to 4-cylinder cars and the goal is to be 130 mph instead of 150 mph. Should be interesting to see what sort of hardware shows up. All I've heard about so far is this Miata, which is going to be running a fully built 2.0 liter version of the Miata motor with a lot of boost. Undoubtedly a number of Honda products should find their way into the competition.

I'm glad it's finally only four cylinder cars...it's where the mass market of tuning currently is. Besides, noone truly gives too much of a rats ass about some $374,000 RENNTech SLR7.4. Gimme something that's tangible.

I usually only skim through the supertuner's challenge unless something strikes me as really interesting. I generally don't care.
Well here's some idle speculation on my part, but it's worth a shot. The 2001 event was called the "Supertuner Challenge." For 2002 they changed the name to "Supercar Challenge." So perhaps, the "Supercar Challenge" is being brought back with the 4-cylinder cars while the "Supercar Challenge" is still going to be around with the big dogs.
As far as what cars might be in the lineup, who knows. Obviously there's going to be the turbo'd Miata. Just from currently available new cars we could see any of the following: Acura RSX, Audi TT, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Honda S2000, Mazda Protege, Mini Cooper S, Mitsubishi EVO, Nissan Sentra, Subaru WRX, Toyota Celica, Toyota MR2 spyder, VW Golf. On top of that we might see some stuff like a Silvia, or an Elise, or um, some other stuff. Should be interesting.
