MT Family Car Comparo

The new Civic Si has alot of weakness. But the Accord is the best deal of the bunch for a family sedan. ABS and 5 spd auto standard is much better than the other two can offer. That and the great interior too. I guess they gotta skimp out some where, and they chose the tires. Which is fine because most people change tires eventually anyways. You can't really change the other stuff as easily.

Motor Trend's Conclusion: "Previous versions of the Camry LE and Accord LX were each named IntelliChoice Best Overall Value based on lower overall costs of ownership in the areas of maintenance, repairs, fuel economy, insurance, and depreciation. There's no reason to believe these two consistent performers won't continue to do so in the future. And all three of the cars in this test are capable of delivering a positive experience from one end of the payment book to the other.
Nothing succeeds like success. The Camry is comfort food for the road, a solid, relaxing ride for tired bones. It's a value-priced, high-quality island of tranquility in a topsy-turvy world. But for the driver who occasionally likes to work a machine through an entertaining series of curves, the Camry is a rather dull instrument.
If the Camry consistently stays below the radar, both the Altima and Accord ping loudly on the enthusiast driving screen. The Altima, with its brassy good looks, roomy cabin, and snappy performance, misses greatness by the narrowest of margins, due to its preponderance of less-than-premium interior materials and sound-deadening attenuation.
The new-generation Accord, on the other hand, takes the honors in this hotly contested three-way based on high-quality presentation, sharp road manners, and generous interior accommodations. This is a fine, dual-purpose car that can double as a family hauler and a sport sedan."

Once again Honda places the Accord in the middle of the sporty Nissan and bland Camry and wins the comparo. I think this is the best comparison of family sedans yet. These cars have their own pros and cons but they are very close in terms of performance and price.
I expect Nissan to up the interior materials for 2004, add Navi, possible CVT, LSD (to handle torque steer), and more power couldnt hurt either.
I expect Honda to offer better tires and rear end treatment.
I expect Toyota to add power in the V6 and I4 engines, 5spd auto, better handling (SE version).
When car manufactures compete consumers win. Now lets take a peak at what Ford and Chevy have to offer, lol.

The comparo is pretty good IMHO. I think they should have added the 6 too but it's still good the way it is. It doesn't really give a definite winner, but more of a description of their strength and weaknesses. Which is more valuable than the #1 spot. I agree w/ H/NF's assessment of what the 3 needs to improve. American car companies are so out of it, it's not even funny.
IMO, those 3 cars need the following:
Accord:
- Rear end refresh
- Different tires
- Split rear bench
Altima:
- New interior
- Better quality
- Sound proofing
Camry:
- Upgrade suspension on all models, + more on SE
- Dash Refresh
- More power
I think all these things will be addressed in the near future.

They said the Accord edged out the others. The Altima was 3rd, Camry 2nd and Accord 1st. Read the last paragraph, f00.
Amazing how much slower the Accord 4-cyl. is with the automatic (even a 5-speed one) compared to the manual. Over a second difference. Score one for the vindication of the manny tranny.
