Theres too many competetions like the Bugatti, Ferrari Enzo, Mclaren to namea few, I just doubt that BMW would thrive in that type of environment.

Bugatti and McLaren haven't produced their respective sports cars for 5+ years.

Bugatti isn't making the Veyron yet :fawk:

If it were to come out it would probably compete (in terms of price) with the Ferrari 360 Modena and Porsche 911 GT2.

Heh.

For those who don't know, here is the original 1979-1980 M1 of which only 450 were built:

If it looks like typical 70's Italian exotic with a vestigal kidney shaped grill, that's because it was designed by ItalDesign and was originally planned to be built by Lamborghini. Lamborghini went bankrupt and BMW had one supplier make the spaceframe and another the body, which were then shipped to a German coachbuilding company that did/does bimmer drop tops. The motor was a 3.5-liter BMW inline six which made 277 hp in street trim and 470 hp in race trim. The same basic motor was later used in the 635CSi and original M5.

The M1 is an absolutely amazing car. I saw one on ebay going for something like $1,000,000...maybe not that much, but it was A LOT.

If its close to that much why not just buy a freaking brand new Ferrari Enzo. Probably a Milionaire enthusiast. But even then I cant just think about that...

$1M for the M1 is wayyyy too much.

I recall one sold for about $150K-$175K recently. In good shape too.

but it's only been in the past 5-8 years the price of these things went up. in the early 90's i believe several of these sold for $40-50K. A bargain now when you think about it.

The $1M one could have been the rare (only 2 or 3 made) 24hrs lemans car.
