Schuitemaker Motorsports hit the track with its new No. 35 Nissan 350Z in the Grand Sport II class at Daytona, prepping for the Daytona 24 Hour, Feb. 1-2. Schuitemaker is in the early development stages of its new Z. Driver B.J. Zacharias said the first Z race car has attracted a ton of attention. “Everybody has been flocking around us to take pictures of the new Nissan,” he said.
Getting attention in the garage is nice, but the team hopes to garner attention on the racetrack, too. “We had to set up the car at the shop by eyeballing it, because this is the first 350Z to race in America. So we are really in uncharted waters,” said Schuitemaker team owner/driver Michiel Schuitemaker. “We’ve been making adjustments to make [the car] better.”
“A top-five finish in class is our goal,” said Zacharias. The Nissan’s best lap time of the testing weekend was a 2:10.977 at 97.849 mph in the Grand Sport II class. The quickest GSII car was a Porsche 911 at 2:07.630 and 100.415 mph.
