The RL has 225HP. And it uses the C35 SOHC, which doesn't relate at all to the J35 SOHC VTEC found in the Ody, Pilot, and MDX. As much as I hate to say it, good points otherwise. I agree. Except it doesn't need RWD or a V8 at all...far more GS300's are sold than GS430's. Same with the 5 series. The RL will lose its market niche if it switches to RWD...we've been over and over this.

C35? Isnt the NSX engine the C32B? This so called C35 seems like a disgrace.

The TL already has most of those amenities. And do you mean sport shift instead of auto shift You raise a good point with the Hybrid thing, but I don't see how it can possibly be a let down. The reliability of the system has been proven several times over, and it comes with a 10 year warranty. Some truck space will obviously be forefeitted, but I'd take that compromise happily. I take issue on the RL not selling by styling (I think it is the best looking luxury car besides the S) and the Seville reference...have you ever read a review of that thing? To avoid torque steer, the steering is sworn to secrecy. I can't see a Hybrid AWD RL being a let down in any way except if something goes horribly wrong and it has 11 recalls in its first 3 years. But hey, the Focus has had that and it's still selling strong.
I did mean sport shift.

You make valid points about the reliability of a hybrid. However, the general public does not know all the stats that most people in this thread are discussing. The people buying an RL or other luxury car probably never heard of a hybrid. It may not be a new invention, but hybrids have been offered in the economy class. That raises two issues: (1) Yes, hybrids are reliable in small, unpowerful, unsophisticated, economic vehicles such as the insight, but how will it measure up when the car is much more powerful and sophisticated; and (2) People in the luxury car segment are not as concerned about fuel economy as the consumer looking at an insight. Therefore, unless they fully understand hybrids and have confidence in their reliability, they may opt for something that they know and understand, the competitions V8!

To each his own regarding the styling of the RL. No pun intended, but the new S is DIRT! :barf: I'll take the 92-99 S over the new one any day! I'm not knocking the styling of the RL, I own one, so I must have seen something that I liked. It is a nice looking car, but very bland. The RL, like the new S does not jump out and grab you like the older S and more importantly, like the 91-95 Legends. The first time I saw a Legend I was in awe. :jawdrop: And it's still a great looking car.

Well in some cases, Acuras early Acuras look BETTER than when they were new... how about this little baby...

If Honda wants to compare favorably to cars like the BMW 5-series, Audi A6, Lexus GS, Mercedes E-class, Infiniti M45 they're going to need RWD and they're going to need a V8. Otherwise whatever they come out with is just an expensive Japanese Cadillac. Honda tends to break into new segments non-aggressively but when they finally do they make a knockout product. Witness the Odyssey and Pilot. Hopefully Honda will figure out that the RL is woefully incomparable with the cars it's meant to compete with and make something really compelling.
The RL sells surprisingly steady for a 6 year old car. The reason is because of customers in the Northeast and harsh cold climate areas. Driving a RWD car in snow and ice is no fun at all. With Cadillac moving to RWD for the next Seville, the FWD choices for these mid level premium sedans dwindles. I can only wish the RL would move to an AWD system, but for now, FWD is ok with me.

As for the V8 issue. Please take a look at the sales number for the GS, 5 series, C class, and A6. The six cylinder trims outsells the V8 trims by about 5 to 1 or more in most cases. I'm not going to bring up the Infiniti Q45 sales again (eh hem...<270 last month).

The RL needs to stay in its place as a mid level premium car. No V8 needed. FWD is ok to fill in a niche for us harsh weather driving folks, but AWD is better. What Acura needs is a new model above the RL, if they're going to bring out a V8 model.

Seems like every month, the subject of RL, RWD, and V8 comes up.

That is a beautiful car. Good job picking out wheels, they fit it perfectly

MPM, I agree about the perceived reliability. You're totally right. But I still find the new S attractive...however, in person, it looks too long. MFB does bring up good points, however they are mostly incorrect.

Oddly, this is is a custom colour not available on any Vigor of any year (makes you wonder why on earth they didn't make it in the first place!) What happened here was that the Vig was originally called "Buckingham Blue Pearl", sort of much darker Navy-like blue. The owner brought it to get a complete re-paint job and the shop mixed-up the codes and ended-up with this out-of-this-world beautiful light metallic blue... woosh... he liked it so much he decided to keep it this way... who wouldn't...?

My point exactly! I think the early Legends are still beautiful, like your Vigor. They seem to get even more crisp looking every day. God how I wish I could find a low mileage, near new 1995-96 Legend coupe six speed. Yes, the CL Type S is still a great car, but there's something to be said about a seven or ten year old car that still looks better than alot of other cars on the road.

Ha Ha Ha I agree... not my style at all - I much prefer the ones on the light blue Vig or the ones on the black Vig above.

Fastball : the red coupe belongs to Leon, the founder of LegendaryLegendz website. That pic is a bit dated and I believe he has changed the wheels anyway! I doubt this car is for sale but Leon will be able to point you in the right direction. Go to http://www.legendarylegendz.com and find a way to reach Leon, and tell him Pet from the Yahoo Vigor club sent you his way, and start shoppin... Good luck!
