Looks good from the angle (aggressive stance but still pretty boring design) but Honda has a long history of poor translations from paper to the real world. Also, we don't get to see the face of the next Accord either, and front ends are another notorious Honda design quagmire.

Default Honda debuting Accord Coupe Concept at Detroit Auto Show

The Accord is Honda's best-selling vehicle. Last month it outsold the Civic (22,488 vs. 20,143 units) and to date this year 324,555 units have been sold. The Accord and Accord Coupe are Honda's bread-and-butter cars, so it is with great interest that we view the sketch above, which is the Honda Accord Coupe Concept that will be unveiled at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in early January. In a press release, Honda comes right out and says, "a bold new look for the next-generation Honda Accord Coupe will be unveiled at the January 2007 (NAIAS) in Detroit." While coupe and sedan versions of the Accord do vary in sheetmetal, their looks are practically identical ahead of the A-pillar. The Accord Coupe Concept we see in Detroit come January should reveal in its lines the next-gen Accord family.

It's extremely difficult to cull any real information about a production vehicle from a concept, and even more difficult to do with a concept sketch where all dimensions of reality are exaggerated by the artist's pen. Still, we can make out what appears to be a wider track that allows for broad shoulders above the rear fenders, something the current coupe doesn't have it all with its slicked back side sheetmetal. The C-pillar is an attractive design, as well, with a kink not unlike that of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

PRESS RELEASE:

Honda Accord Coupe Concept to Debut at North American International Auto Show

TORRANCE, Calif. 12/05/2006 --

A bold new look for the next-generation Honda Accord Coupe will be unveiled at the January 2007 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

The Accord Coupe Concept will convey exterior styling cues and design features that provide a first look at the direction the next-generation Accord will take and it promises to set a new benchmark for Accord and for the segment. The Accord is Honda's best selling model in North America, and this vehicle's debut at NAIAS will mark the first time an Accord concept car has ever been shown at a major auto show.

Car and Driver magazine recently named the current-generation 2007 Honda Accord as one of the winners of its prestigious and highly competitive annual "10Best Cars" award. The Accord has achieved "10Best" status 21 times in the 25 years that Car and Driver editors have been conducting the competition, more than any other vehicle in the award's history.

Huh? You know the rules, no grille.

Just the way, uh huh, I like it, uh huh, uh huh. :chuckles:

Looks good. They have to be quick on this before the Altima Coupe grabs the market!

i am anxiously awaiting for this car, essentially looking at a 2008 EX-L I4 manual coupe, and i hope honda doesnt dissapoint.

i would assume that they would want to match, if not surpass in terms of power and options. it'd be nice to see a 180 HP 4 cyl. and a 270 HP V6, both available with 6 speed transmissions.

One option id like to see in the 4 cyl for the next generation would be buying a factory EX model with 17 in rims, or be the equivalent to the rim on the EX-V6, and not an inch smaller like in the past.

I hope they dont use that brake light in the trunk like they did on the 2006-2007's, and go back to the brake light in the window, and make a LED rear spoiler like they did for the last so many years.

anyhow, c'mon january.

I doubt we'll see a bump in power for the 4-cylinder at all from the 160HP variant. It's still competitive with the other market 4-cylinders, and people who buy the 4-cylinder versions want economy over anything else. Horsepower ruins that economy.

That being said, the V6 might see a big infusion of power.

Actually, when Honda recently announced their new Advanced VTEC valvetrain we will see improvements in I-4 engine power and fuel economy. My guess is that the new 2.4-liter I-4 for the 2008 Accord will use Advanced VTEC, rated at around 185 bhp (SAE 08/04 net) and 5-7% better fuel economy than the current engine. With more "sport" oriented engine timing 220 bhp from a 2.4-liter I-4 engine could be within reach.

I had no idea anything like that was in the works.
