Default 2008(?) Subaru Impreza WRX Spied

It's a 5-door and it's lost the pig snout. Other than that, not much is known for sure.

Looks like it's being tested against a Golf GTI (or maybe that's a coincidence), so perhaps that is the vehicle with which they intend to compete now.

that image looks promising, and it also looks as if it has been modified to fit in more with the legacy look

I really hope they get the styling worked out on this one. Old school Imprezas looked good, but then the three iterations of the current generation have all fallen flat for me. The '02-'03 model was at least cohesive, even if it did have a bit of a goofy bug-eye stance (which has incidentally grown on me quite a bit over the years), but then the '04-05 and 06+ look overstyled and front-heavy.

It's very odd to me because -- as proven by the Saab 9-2x -- you can certainly make an attractive car on the Impreza platform, yet somehow Subaru tried 3 different times and failed each time.

I'm hoping they'll make a 3 door version. Not that I plan on owning another Suby anyway, but I just don't see the appeal of a 5 door or wagon. I'm also hoping they'll be able to keep the weight down on this one.

Thanks! I guess I should have said, other than sheer functionality.... ...you know the rest.

There's also every possibility that I'll evolve into a wagon person. h:
