apex seals last for a while so long as you don't modify the engine and leave it completely stock - which takes the fun out of tuning the rx-7 for more power...you up boost or do anything to raise power they engine is no longer reliable for a long run...you add a turbo or modify a Honda engine it will still last a long time if done correctly

Mazda's rotaries just are very reliable over the long run and require rebuilds much more often than even their 4 cylinder engines - got lots of buddies who race rx-7s with stock engines and they need to rebuild at least annually when my 944 or Honda's 4 cyl can go at least 3-4 years (and this is under intense abuse)
