i think one problem could be in their rapid ascent. up until the last couple years, hyundai has been nothing more than the cheapest way to get a new car. they were mediocre, ugly econo-boxes that were unreliable. but they sure were cheap, and that's probably the only way they were able to sell anything. because they had been doing that for almost 20 years in the US, i think it might be hard to completely dispel that reputation from the public's perception. they want to go from worst to best overnight, and in terms of reputation, that's a really hard thing to do. not saying it can't be done, just that they may be aiming too high, too fast.
