Honda and Toyota are affected b/c the system changed and they retested all their fleet (not many other mfgrs have done the same)

What is of more concern is mfgrs lying about the #s they tested such as Ford (Mustang Cobra), Mazda (Miata & RX8) and Nissan (Sentra) are well known for doing - in fact all of these recent problems stem from cars where HP is taken more into consideration as teh drivers demand performance

jaje,

I believe that the 2006 Mazda MX-5 (neé Miata) is truly rated at 170 bhp, thanks to the use of the newer SAE 08/04 net standard to measure engine horsepower.

also, they didnt lie abotu the power of the rx-8, it merely was miscommunication.

the PR department heard fromt he engineers that it would be rated at X horsepower, but then the US slapped them with more emissions bull and they had to detune it, no one ever told the PR dept.

it was a screw up on their part.

infact i believe was it two years ago that top gear's guys said it was one of the nicest (in euro/japanese form) cars avalible at the time in terms of performance?

they tested and found hp ratings...changed items they knew would affect performance and the power produced - doesn't matter if they didn't communicate it b/c the company is taken as a whole

it maybe true for the current version but the previous model did not make the advertised hp

one thing i find funny is people who claim they knew their car wasn't making the advertised power. besides the miata incident, i don't think so.

I remember Mazda getting into a lot of trouble with the previous generation Miata because the original specified horsepower was based on the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) engine. When the Miata's engine was certified under US emissions certification, it lost nearly 15 horsepower (SAE net).

The current Mazda MX-5 is truly rated at 170 bhp SAE 08/04 net, so the car is actually just as fast as the turbocharged Miatas sold previously.

They should just put a horsepower gauge in every car..... like the Bugatti Veyron.
