2007 Jaguar XK spy shots

The Jaguar XK's replacement will be called... XK. Latest spy photos of the sleek new 2+2 coupe, caught out whilst Jaguar prepares publicity material for its launch, clearly show the "XK" badge on its tail. Looking very similar to the cleanly-styled ALC - advanced lightweight concept - show car we saw at the Detroit and Geneva motor shows, it is built on a version of the XJ saloon's aluminium body structure. It'll be fitted with the new 4.4 V8 as used in the latest Range Rover, good for 180 mph and 0-60 in less than five seconds; supercharged R versions - giving a good 400 bhp - will follow.

Just like their concept...I absolutely love it. The front might be a bit too Aston for me, but the rear and shoulders of the car are gorgeous. Hopefully we can get some manual trannies with this one, but I doubt it. Ford seems obsessed with their new 6A.

some concept images from automobile magazine, just for reference.

looks almost identical. no clear tail lights, orange reflectors in the headlights. a little bit different front treatment - looks like fog lights in the "bumper", instead of some ventilation. seems like the silver accent on the side vent is gone, but then again, the spyshots are of a silver car. maybe it just blends in? i like that blue color on the concept. it'd be great if they offered it on the production model

Front looks like a Ford Taraus

Edit: Is James Bond doing another movie? Because I see "Filming in Progress" on one of the signs in the spy shots.

I was just about to say that it looks like a Taurus... But then all jags sorta do after Ford bought them.

Probably for a commercial. Bond drives Aston now.

In the last one, Die Another Day, Bond drove the Aston and the guy with rocks in his face drove the Jag. What's to say that another enemy can't be driving a Jag? And didn't Bond drive BMW previously to Aston?? In Goldeneye he drove the Z3 Roadster.

MrFatbooty 04-14-2005 06:44 PM

The original James Bond car is an Aston Martin DB5, driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball. When the action shifted to Japan for You Only Live Twice he hopped a ride in a one-off Toyota 2000GT convertible.

George Lazenby drove an Aston Martin DBS in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

In Diamonds Are Forever Sean Connery drove a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 through downtown Las Vegas.

Roger Moore drove a Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only.

Timothy Dalton drove an Aston Martin V8 Vantage and V8 Volante in The Living Daylights.

Eon Productions, the company that makes the Bond movies, struck a deal with BMW for the first three Pierce Brosnan movies.

But, the iconic Bond car has always been the Aston Martin DB5. Ford knew this, and signed a deal with Eon to have Bond drive an Aston in Die Another Day. And with this corporate sponsorship, pretty much every single vehicle to get any screen time in the movie was from some Ford brand or another. Halle Berry had a pink Thunderbird, there were lots of Volvos and Range Rovers and everything else from the Ford stables.

So for the next couple movies, or for however many more are made that Ford sponsors, I'd say it's a solid bet that Bond will drive an Aston of some sort or another, and any other Ford vehicle featured prominently will be driven by someone else.

So, about that Jaguar XK...

That looks really close to the Crossfire.

Meet the next convertible XK, sister to the undisguised coupe that we caught earlier. Jaguar has rejected the trend toward steel folding roofs, instead opting for a fabric folding set-up.

This lighter-weight approach would complement the Jaguar's lightweight all-alloy construction. And we would think it unlikely that the new XK cabrio will adopt the 'pram stack' folding operation of the current car, which leaves the roof unattractively proud of the car's waistline.

Jaguar in the 21st Century: Jag front ends that don't look like Jags

I like it, but I think Soft Cell is good music... :chuckles:

Looks like a Jag to me...

The headlights even look kinda like the E-type, at least until they stretch out to the fenders and come to a point. But the part on the front of the car, yeah. Definite E-type inspiration there.

Yep looks like a modern E-type to me as well. I'm sure most of people that read HAN have never seen an E-type before or know what it is :chuckles:

As well as lifting the lid on Jaguar's hot new coupé, the mag's spies have also managed to get the XK convertible into their viewfinders. This week's mag has the best pictures yet of the drop-top that will take on BMW's 6-Series Convertible and Porsche's awesome 911 Cabrio.

Unlike the hard-top XK, the cabrio won't be officially unveiled until the Geneva Motor Show next March. As a result, this variant is yet to venture out into the open without any disguise, but Jaguar fans can rest assured that none of the coupé's style will be lost with the removal of the roof.

While early indications were that engineers were working on a folding metal hard-top for the XK, this project is now thought to have been dropped in favour of a more traditional canvas lid. Despite the elaborate cladding added to the prototype seen here, the hood is clearly visible. Taking the place of the rear seats fitted in the coupé, the roof mechanism allows the soft-top to be hidden beneath the bodywork when owners want open-top motoring.

Inside, the cabin will be trimmed to luxurious standards and share many components with the XJ saloon. Along with the firm's trademark hooded dials, high-quality leather trim and deep carpets, there will be hi-tech touch screen sat-nav combined with an in-car entertainment system.

Part of the reason for the staggered launch of the coupé and cabrio is down to the high standards set by Jaguar bosses. They wanted no compromise in ride or handling, so the convertible is still undergoing exhaustive development work to fine-tune chassis rigidity and air-suspension settings.

Both naturally aspirated and supercharged convertibles will be offered, with the flagship promising effortless performance. The XKR - set apart by four exhaust pipes - will feed power through a modified and strengthened version of the XJ saloon's six-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. Thanks to an advanced traction control system, the cabrio is expected to manage the sprint from 0-60mph in little more than five seconds.

As a result of the extra work involved, the XK convertible won't go on sale in the UK before the end of next year. Prices and specifications are yet to be confirmed, but base models will be priced at around £5,000 more than the equivalent hard-top.

Yeah, I'll give credit. It does look like the profile of the E-type in front, Mike.

Jaguar's new XK sports car, which Wheels24 uncovered earlier this year with exclusive spy photos, is to feature a potent turbodiesel engine.

The Jaguar XK is to be officially unveiled later this year with a 4.2-litre V8 engine.

There will also be a an entry-level 3.5-litre V8 petrol model as well as a supercharged XKR.

However, the big news is that Jaguar is also going the diesel route with the XK.

According to Auto Express will get a V8 turbodiesel V8, which is to be developed in conjunction with Land Rover.

This 4-litre engine will have a power output of about 270 hp while torque will be an incredible 440 lb/ft. The 0-62 mph sprint will be a mere seven seconds.

MtViewGuy88, you are hereby officially sanctioned to wet yourself in response to this news, should you feel so inclined.

And yes, we know about the low-sulfur diesel that's coming out here soon enough. :oh:

98CoupeV6 06-14-2005 10:00 PM

Do you actually think we'll get the diesel here? I don't think it has a chance. The only way diesel can sell in the US right now is its higher efficiency than gasoline, and if you're buying a Jag you probably don't really give a shit what MPG it gets.
