2006 Jeep Commander full sized SUV

A press release:
This fall the all-new Jeep Commander will offer you more of everything that you've come to expect from a Jeep vehicle. The result of more than 60 years of building industry-leading 4x4s, the Commander is all Jeep brand, inside and out - a ruggedly styled SUV with a well-appointed interior which provides versatility and compliments an adventurous lifestyle.
Commander is the first Jeep vehicle with three rows of seating. And stadium-style seating - second row seating is slightly higher than the front, and third-row slightly higher still - provides a better inside/outside view for passengers. An available large front-row power sunroof and CommandView dual skylights above the second row open Commander's cabin, treating driver and passenger to an "open-roof" sensation. Fold-flat seats and automatic folding head restraints create increased cargo storage.
Commander, like all Jeep 4x4s, has the capability to confidently go where you want. It's equipped with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) - which helps maintain the vehicle's stability regardless of raod surface or weather conditions - the available QuadraDrive II system and industry exclusive Electronic Limited Slip Differentials (ELSD), Commander power comes from a choice of three engines: 3.7-Liter V6, 4.7-Liter V8, and even the brawny 5.7-Liter HEMI V8.
Commander is designed to provide the most civilized motoring experience even in the most brutal driving conditions on-road or off. Broad-shouldered seats with dual firmness foam provide form-fitting comfort. Available Yuma Limited leather trim with perforated insert and criss-cross centerstitch displays a look as classic as a leather bomber jacket. Backseat passengers can tune in to an entertainment center that features a single-disc DVD player at the rear of the center floor console, overhead-mounted video screen, wireless remote control and two sets of wireless headphones.
The available satellite navigation system offers full-screen (5.8 inches) map color display that uses thin film transistor, Liquid Crystal Display for easy viewing suring daylight or at night. Interior conveniences and safety features include front windows with express up-and-down, and door modules that control window motion and sense for pinch conditions during closing procedures. And drivers are aided by Commander's Park Sense rear back-up system - it alerts the driver to obstacles located immediately behind the vehicle.
Commander - an all together fresh expression of the essence of the Jeep brand. One look at it's all-new design and you're sure to say "Now that is a Jeep 4x4". It is what other SUVs can only hope to be.
and an article:
For the 2006 model year, Jeep will offer its largest Jeep ever, an extended wheelbase 7-passenger luxury/off-road model called the Commander. The Commander is built on the same platform as the Grand Cherokee, but uses very different sheet metal . Perhaps in some respects, an evolutionary upgrade to the Jeep "Wagoneer". The Commander is estimated to be 4-5" taller and 10" longer (?) than the 2005 Grand Cherokee. The GVW Rating (Gross Vehicle Weight) will be around 6210 lbs. for the base model and 6410 lbs. for the Limited.
Base models of the Commander will feature body color grille and fascias and black body side molding while the Limited models will have a chrome grille and chrome body side strip. Second row seats in both models are split 40/20/40 and have a "tumble" feature. Most of the features, options and colors for the Commander are exactly the same as what is available on the 2005-2006 model WK Grand Cherokee's. In fact, aside from the third row seat, one of the only new features on this super-size Jeep is a wide-angle sunroof called "Command View".
The Commander will offer the same engine and transmission choices as the Grand Cherokee, the 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8 and 5.7 V8 MDS Hemi engines along with the W5A580 and 545RFE transmissions. The navigation and Boston Acoustics sound systems are also the same as what is available on the Grand. However, most likely there will be a model above the Limited, similar to what Jeep is offering with the 2006 Grand Cherokee Overland. If so, you'll see some of the same features like electroluminescent gauges, luxury trim and special wheels.

I must say, this thing is rather unfortunately styled. I found this composite photo on another forum:

The interior also looks way too spartan, or rather too much like an immitation Hummer. The Grand Cherokee doesn't go for stupid "military" styling, so why should the Commander? Ugh.
