Default Suzuki Swift

Will debut at September 2004 Paris Auto Show - most likely won't make it to the US

Suzuki Motor Corporation has released preliminary photographs of the all-new Suzuki Swift to be launched at the Paris Motor Show on 23 September. Based on the rally-inspired Concept-S shown at the 2002 Paris show, and the open-top Concept-S2 sports car revealed at the 2003 Frankfurt show, the Suzuki Swift 3 and 5-door hatchbacks are Suzuki's vision of the compact car genre and once again demonstrate the Company's consistency in delivering distinctive interpretations of established market segments.

A Japanese car developed in Europe for today's global market

Throughout its development, the design and driving characteristics of the New Swift have been firmly focused on the European market, and the totally new chassis has been refined through an extensive programme of road-testing across Europe. The car will also be built locally, at the Magyar Suzuki Corporation plant in Hungary.

The New Swift will be available from spring 2005 with a choice of 1.3 litre and 1.5 litre petrol engines, the latter with variable valve timing, plus a 1.3 litre diesel engine. A preliminary specification is provided below (subject to change).

Hey that looks a good deal like the Concept S from the 2002 Paris show. Well, with a couple of extra doors, and a more normal interior.

That car actually looks like something people would drive, unlike the rest of the Suzuki line-up. The exterior and interior of this car is way above the likes of any Suzuki sold in the States. I say they should drop the Aerio and bring this over and actually have a performance model. I know it would sell twice as good as their current line-up.

I sure hope that this means there is a chance we will still see a two door awd hatch just like the concept s!! I loved it when I first saw it in 2002.

Before I even read the replies, I was thinking to myself "People would actually drive this, and they might have fun doing it!"

And the thing will probably be called "the japanese mini" for the rest of its life. Though I'd hit it over a mini anyday.

The article says there are going to be 3- and 5-door versions.

The exterior is a little funky to me, but the interior is really very nice.

I like. It's got an endearing perkiness to it.
It's one of the few new cars that doesn't look excessively tall.
If the weight is kept down, it could be fun.

Hey, mate it with the V6 from the Vitara XL7. :reechy:
