I'd think that the American-designed/American-made TL is much more comfortable for cross-country trips than the Euro/Japan-intended TSX. Edmunds ... clueless again!

we've done about 10 eight hour one way road trips since we bought the car...it's quite comfy...even going through the mountains...this little torquey engine would have no problem pulling us up slopes at 2500rpms in 6th gear

my only gripe on such long trips is that to make more comfortable for me while i'd be driving, i'd put a small pillow at the small of my back...i'm 6'3" so a little taller than normal

I really don't find any problems at all with this list. All of these vehicles seem like solid choices. Honda is represented nicely here, they have two of the top 10....I don't find anything wrong with that? :dunno:

The list has no apparent logic behind it. It's just 10 decent cars. Anyone could pick 10 decent cars.

Well as an element owner I can say that it really does qualify highly as a road tripper. I've done so many of them thus far and my buds love the stretch out room and utility. And not caring about getting the inside messy is a definate plus plus.

I drove a Malibu all day. The interior isn't great, and some plastics are low rent, but overall it is designed well, and put together very well, and some plastics had a nice feel to them.

It road ok. Nothing great. It handled like a family sedan, no worse then any Camry I have driven.

The 3.5 is fairly smooth. The transmission shifts smoother then Honda. It's one of the few things I think GM does well. 4 speeds, but it's a quiet engine and it can pull along at low RPM (30mph is about 1200 RPM). 55mph is about 1500. It really doesn't need another gear--although it could help. It sounds nice too, deep and mellow--I don't know, I like the sound.

I didn't mind it. Would I buy one? No. If somebody wanted a midsized wagon, would I include the Maxx in a list I think they should look at? Definitely.

"good road trip car" would include 4-cylinder cars that are economical.

"great road trip car" would basically require a V6 and big, comfy, made-for-Michael-Moore type seats.
