Canada gets a 3series with that motor, the 320i. I took the 530i in for servicing once and recieved that as a loner car, and got to drive it a bit.

The article says "all new." Doesn't the current 2.2 liter motor make something like 160 hp as opposed to the 180 hp that was mentioned above?

Have you used it? Don't say it's good until you try it.

All of my experiences with stupid integrated control screens that absorb radio and hvac controls into the navigation system have been annoying as hell. This is even in the TSX, which is supposed to be fine since it's made by Honda.

Even the non-integrated navigation screens annoy me, especially when they have those annoying ass voice prompts that require you to go three levels deep into a menu to turn off.

Well my point was if 160hp will suffice, then surely 180hp adequate. It cant be THAT different really.

Define "suffice." With 180 hp I hope the car weighs no more than 2800 lbs.

I believe the target weight is under 3000lbs.

Current E46 325i is ~3200lbs

Given that the size is around the E30 3 series size (2850lbs), I think they will come out around 3000lbs.

I recall 165hp for the 2.2L engine, with a turbo bumping it to 200hp.

Sounds to me like it might just be a new engine with similar displacement to the current one.

BMW has in the past made different engines of similar displacement.

The motor is already used in Euro versions of the Z4 as the econo version. Its the way companies avoid gas guzzler tariffs over there. That motor won't make it to the US for the 3 series.

I'm not digging the body. I don't think it is a very balanced design.

I looked at BMW UK's site, and the Z4 2.2i is rated at 170 hp over there. They have a different hp rating scale (for example the 2.5i is rated at 192 hp and the 3.0i at 231 hp) so I'm pretty sure it's not the "new" 2.2 liter motor as referred to in the article.
