I'm sure the M5 will get all of the assorted handling "aids" the E60 platform has to offer. I'm not so worried about active steering though. Total BMW magazine did a review of the 645Ci and said in that application the gimmick actually seemed to enhance the driving experience. Not sure how useful it would be on a track though, but how many M5s ever make it onto a track?

Eh, I'm not impressed. With the current M5, you see one of those on your tail in the fast lane and you're gonna pull the hell over. This new M5 concept would just make me ask "what's that?" Just doesn't have the masculine, in your face, kick ass look. Just like all the new BMWs.

Those wheels do leave something to be desired.
I'm not..."moved"... I mean, sure, it's the ultimate driving machine but maybe it's becoming too ultimate. The ultimate artificial driving machine? I don't know, I don't like this direction.
Then again, if I want pure I could just buy a early 90s miata with power nothing. This leads me to believe that most M5 buyers couldn't care less about actual driving experience, just the perception factor.

Ya know I've been kind of convincing myself the E60 looks good and it's an improvement over the E39, but I dunno. I saw a plain old pre-angel eyes 528i in the parking lot at the movies last night and it just looked really nice to me. The E60, even in M5 form, doesn't really do that for me.

Your observation highlights exactly what I'm talking about. My next door neighbor has one of the very first E39's, and it's that car's sheer elegance that is lost on the E60.
The E36, E39 & E38(?) are - IMO - BMW at it's zenith.
