Anyway that's not really important, what I found interesting was that there seems to be really no difference between the motors at all. As far as I can tell from these dyno charts they're exatly the same, but since Nissan is claiming different power output for the two cars they're either underrating the 240hp Altima since 14% drivetrain loss is better then average, or they're overrating the 255hp Maxima since 20% drivetrain loss is worse then average. It's my guess that the motors in the Altima and the Maxima are acctualy producing a power rating somewhere inbetween Nissan's claim of 240hp and 255hp, like 245-250.

Or not, who knows.
I cant find that dyno chart again, o well, maybe it was an auto.

That what I was thinking, the hp is somewhere between the two, becuase either way the drivetrain loss % doesnt work out well.

I've gotten really off topic.
So, I do beleive the 350Z engine makes exactly 287hp. I wonder how much of it gets to the wheels. :fawk:

No, it's on topic.

Very good job Apple, thanks alot. That means Nissan is still pulling ****, they seperate the Alty an Max for marketing reasons. Now find some J32A2 dynos and see what 260 hp really equates to at the wheels, and we'll see what Nissan is making at the crank.

Hey HN fan, Maybe the guys who "tested" these cars forgot what the dyno results were and were drunk so they gave the Max 15 extra UNHEALTHY ponies because it's 5 grand more.

I thought that this topic about ALty/Max HP was put to rest in one of the SCC issues where they showed the dyno graph of both and the Maxima's was clearly higher than the Altima. Some people were upset because the Altima spanked the Max in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile test depsite a 1lb. weight difference between the two.

You contradicted yourself...you said the Altima was faster but the Max had more HP. Obviously the stats are messed.

I almost picked the S2000 but I really love the Audi TT...get that as a cabriolet with the baseball glove stiched leather...OMG. S2000 is a close second for me! The interiors of the new Nissans are aweful IMO.

Every sat in the TT? The ergonomics are awful, it's like you're sitting in a bathtub, very unlike the S2000. Ever driven it? The 5 speed on the 225HP edition is one of the worst gearboxes I've ever driven on a car costing more than 20 grand.

But it is a beautiful car with great fit and finish. But it belongs in the same sentence of the MB SLK, not the S2000.

My appologies for putting the two in the same sentance:fawk: .

I have driven both...and the S2000 does have a smoother gearbox. However at 6'1" the TT does not feel like a bathtub to me and I think that the layout is not all that bad.

I do have to say that the high door are great for one thing...getting head. I say a guy in trafic who's girl was doing it...I gave him the  and he just .

getting a little off topic but...

I don't know what the manufacturing tolerance is for nissan but. for BMW M engines (with the S designation) the tolerance for HP is -1% to +10%. which mean in a S52 (my engine) you can have as much as 264hp or as little as 237.6hp.

Mine dynoed in at ~220hp. which is approximately 258hp at the crank using the 15% loss. some M coupes dyno at 225hp, the lowest I've seen is 203hp. they are both within the tolerance set by BMW.

Nissan says 287hp. That is believable to me but I'd be more interested in the tolerance allowed for the engine output. because lets face it not all engine is going to make 287hp as advertised. some might make more and others will make less.

it's interesting you brought that up about the TT because I felt claustrophobic in the TT (coupe). thats the same reason why I didn't buy the M roadster. with the top up I couldn't stand to be in the car.

also the 225hp TT has a 6-speed

Gee Viggen now THAT isn't off topic :fawk:

Who needs high doors to get head? All I have to say is that neither me or my girlfriend are shy :fawk:

Hey Dakar, never got to use any gears past 4th and I didn't look at the knob

But on the TT, I also felt very claustrophobic...it seems like the dash is just a straight up cliff. Of course I work part time as a circus midget.

(Naw, I'm really 5' 10" :fawk: )
