It's in the eye of the beholder. The Z4 looks fine to me, although the front is hideous. The interior is gorgeous, and I'm sure the driving dynamics will surpass that of the SLK (Mercedes-Benz has always been a little behind BMW in chassis dynamics).

I like it. But I need to see the interior and the front nose, For me that will make or break it.

The car looks hot, but I definately see a lot of SC430 in it. Yeah I know that Lexus copied the previous SLK for the SC, but this car is alot more roundy (like the SC43) than the old SLK. Since it looks like its using the hardtop convertible again I'd say that it will continue to be significantly more expensive than the Z4.

I have a feeling my only "beef" with this car will be the base engine, the supercharged 4-cylinder. I hate that engine with a passion...sounds like a vacuum cleaner and it's anemic - it never comes alive.

My friend has a 2001 SLK230 Kompressor and he's had more problems with that engine than you can count on two hands. His last (and absolute last, he's selling the car) event was when the supercharger shit the bed at 27K miles.

Well, I think Benz already updated their 4 cylinder kompressor engines now. The C230K now has a 1.8l engine and boosting less horsepower. But that engine is supposed to be smoother and better than the old ones. But I don't know much about this engine either.

I haven't driven the 1.8 liter versions, but from what I've heard they aren't impressive either.
