GM cutting more corners
Quote from tonight's episode of Late Night With Conan O'Brien: "General Motors has announced that it's going to begin charging extra for side impact airbags and anti-lock brakes, which used to be standard. It's gonna be extra now. Not only that, for an extra fee, General Motors will throw in some of those new fangled windshield wipers. They have those in case you want them."
Bahahahaha. I always knew they cut all kinds of corners to keep costs down, but that's is pretty low. And to think... just last week, some people were surprised when I called the Cavalier an econobox. I can hardly wait to see next year's model!
They must be going after Kia's cardboard-box-with-wheels market.

Sure they do AF, Profit = R&D. And when that many people are pissed off at you and your product is so lackluster 80% of R&D money goes into how to screw those haters over and how to make people forget that the cars suck....a la 0% financing.

GM has done almost everything in the past to make me refuse to buy another one of their cars ever again. But the Pontiac GTO had made me reconsider, with tight design and better than typical Detroit build quality. But this takes the cake. And they do it at the most inopportune time..... right on the heels of the 2003 Accord release. So, lets see. GM is taking away standard ABS, side airbags, and increasing prices. Honda keeps those safty features, ADDS side impact curtain airbags, electronic brake force distribution, and keeps the price very close if not exactly the same. Can't those idiots at the blue square and blue oval see what Honda is doing? This is getting rediculous. It's like Honda is the New York Yankees and GM is the Tampa Bay DevilRays, and they have to play each other every day.
Now, GM are the Angels...they whine and ***** and make excuses when Honda (Yankees) put out a great new model (trade), but noone realises that they have the money and power (Fawkin Disney has more money than George Steinbrenner) to do something about it and are just running out inferior products to try to make big profits without spending R&D money.

I think that's the thing that ticks me off the most. GM is worth $40,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 and they don't reinvest thier profits into the product. It goes straight to the CEO and boards pockets. The products they offer are so inferior to Honda, and yet Honda is 1/5th the size. How can they honestly look people in the eye and say they do anything better. They haven't even updated thier bread and butter engine designs in 50 years! (Pushrods go back to the 1948 Cadillac Eldrorado)
