WOW, i can't believe the top 3 are all trucks. Extremely lucrative market, yet the Japanese are not jumping head first in this, considering they already conquered the sedan market.

Anyway, Mitsubishi will be getting a version of the next Dakota, the next Frontier should be up to 'mid-size'. I'm not so sure what the B-Series standings are, as Ford seems to like to neglect the Ranger and Mazda is going for a sportier image.

The first real competitor to the Big 3 is only now hitting the market. Toyota will most likely take things up a notch with the next Tundra (unless they like havin' a 9/10ths fullsize). But the Japanese don't really have to conquer this market. Ford sells so many versions of the F-Series it's unreal: engines, drivetrains, bed lenths, wheel bases, cab lengths, door configurations, even interiors. With all that differentiation there's a price to pay (luckily for Ford, it recoups it all with the extreme sales #'s). Nissan is only going to have four basic Titans (V6 models will be out later) and they'll make a huge amount on all of them.

Agree, I wounder why Honda doesn't jump in as well, considering how lucrative this market is, low cost and high profit. I mean Nissan has much less $$ and they're able to start from scratch w/ the Titan, why can't Honda? Unless they don't want more profit.

Honda has a pretty strong environmental stand. In the end it is all about profits...that's true. But they wouldn't want to alienate (sp?) the loyal buyers that love honda because of its environmental stance.
Plus, unlike nissan, Honda doesnt really have a history in trucks and they don't have a v8. Even when they do finally decide to make a v8 for production vehicles, their first v8 wouldnt likely be big enough for a full size truck. So if honda does decide they want to make a full size truck, I think we are at least 8-10 years before it actually happens.

I heard a very nasty rumor though that the truck Honda is going to release based on the Accord platform is suppose to be FWD????

I'm going to argue with you on this one (even though I'm probably wrong about it). Nissan has a budget and very limited engineering resources, but yet they are able to build one hell of a truck from scratch...which I have no doubts that it'll be profitable. Honda from my understanding has deep pockets, and IMO the best engineers in their workforce. So I see no reason as to why Honda cannot enter into this market and make an impact in a short period of time. So I don't think they need a history in trucks nor building V8s.

That rumor you heard was what was previewed by Honda a while back. It'll be Front biased AWD. And you're right, it'll be on the Accord/Pilot platform. I think basically, Nissan was much more daring, in product choice, that's why their sales are growing much faster.

Oddesey platform...which I believe is a stretched accord platform. I'm pretty sure it would be awd only.....but yeah its a fwd based car and I dont like the idea of a truck on a non truck platform. However, I'm sure it'll sell...people that would buy a honda truck would be likely be using it for light utility.
