Default Bike tune up..

How often do the oil, plugs, and wires need changed in a bike? Im sure I could look it up but would like to get your opinions on it, because most often people have different opinions than a manufacturer..

Each bike is different. Since you have a rebel...

I lurk on that board. The members seem to be pretty active.

I'm not sure if it will help, but maybe the Rebel's maintenance schedule is similar to the VLX's.

Every 4,000 miles or 6 months:

Every 8,000 miles or 12 months

All of the items above including
  • Change the engine oil and oil filter

Every 12,000 miles
  • Repack the swingarm bearings
  • Inspect the cooling system and replace the coolant
Every 15,000 miles or two years
  • Clean and lubricate the steering head bearings
Every 30,000 miles
  • Replace the drive chain
Every two years
  • Replace the brake master cylinder and caliper seals and change the brake fluid
Every four years
  • Replace the brake hose
I plan on changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. I clean and lube the chain every two weeks or 500 miles. I also check the chain slack when cleaning the chain. If I feel that the carb might be a little gunked up, I'll add Seafoam to the gas for a couple fills.

If you plan on keeping the bike, you might want to pick up a Haynes manual for it on e-bay.

Me myself, I'm a maintenance nut. I keep all my vehicles properly maintained at the very least to the factory schedule. I keep all maintenance records for each vehicle in a separate 3 ring binder. I log fuel consumption and mileage for fill ups. All of this helps me get more $$$ when I trade/sell a vehicle.
