Default '99 CRV Needs New Head?

I was told that my 1999 Honda Cr-V needs its head replaced. It is misfiring on the#2 & #4 cylinders. The check engine light is flashing which makes my car undrivable until it is repaired. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this? The mechanic told me that this was a problem that is known by Honda yet I do not find any information on it. Any input is appreciated.

yes I've seen a few of the CRV's with 2.0 DOHC motors , the problem is the valves don't get adjusted until 105k or somthing like that so the valves get tight and burn out. if they aren't burn't yet I would check the valve clearance first before replaceing the head if it's burn't then it's too late

That's not really the problem, the problem is that the valve seats are made too soft from the factory and the valves start to recess into the head. It's a common thing.
valve adjustment after it starts running bad and mil lights come on do not fix it. You need to replace the head with the updated honda head.

Yes, this is a known problem with CRVs. Another frequent issue with the CRVs is with the fuel injectors.

hondatech is right. There is a TSB on the subject. If the valves are tight and you adjust the valves and the problem comes back, the valves are receeding into the head. Replace head.
