Default 2001 honda passport 4 wheel drive light blinking...

I just purchased a 2001 honda passport and when I try to engage the pushbutton on the 4 wheel drive I get a blinking "4 wheel drive" light on the dash. The previous owner says that this is normal when the car is not on a slippery enough surface to remind you to disengage it. Is this sound right? I don't believe him because the 4 wheel drive does not seem to engage but, of course I do not have a manual to answer this question. Can a guy get some help here?!!!!

is the vehicle in 4LO or 4HI? check that first, the 4wd disengages at a certain speed . also make sure the vaccum hoses are in good shape and hooked up they are located by the front axle, its a little gear box just off to the passenger side of the axle

I'm having this same issue. When the 4 wd drive button is pressed. The light on the dash flashes. You can hear something going on down below, but no matter what speed (shift on the fly) it will not lock in the hubs....

sounds either like a bad 4WD module or axle actuator.
