You're all talking about the 19th huh? I wish I could go but I can't that day. I'd go on the 20th but as much as I miss autocrossing, I don't want to be the only person there, sitting around after driving 2 hrs because I didn't pass tech due to excessive play in my wheel bearings or something.

that hasn't happened to me but the cal expo lot is small so it's usually a high 30s like 38-39 for the fastest drivers and mid 50's for the slowest.
my fastest time was around 45seconds, last year at cal expo lot, my friend ran 42seconds.

Shortly after I purchased this car I brought it into a AAA inspection center and they found a whole slew of problems with it (some which didn't surprise me and some that did), such as a leaking brake master cylinder, a possibly sticking front brake caliper, a noisy front wheel bearing, and a few other things. Not too long after that, I started leaking coolant from the area where my waterpump is located (I haven't checked it to be 100% sure but I'm almost certain that it was the waterpump). I had the brake MC changed and I ended up swapping the motor for another d16z6 (with inspy's hoist and 'doood's help in guiding the motor back into the engine bay BTW
) after my timing belt snapped. That took care of the major leaks. I changed my front pads and they seem to be wearing just fine so I'm not sure if that's yet an issue. My biggest worries now are that I have pulsation in the brake pedal (I'll change my rotors someday) and that wheel bearing issue. I just need to just check for excessive play while the wheel is off the ground one of these days since I'm always forgetting. But trying to shake it while the tire is on the ground doesn't show me any excessive play from what I can tell so I might be fine....but yeah, if my potential problems aren't determined to be safety issues, then I might autox some day soon.
i've seen them grab a hold of a wheel and check if they are loose but only on heavily modified cars and on old cars. like 1970s, 1960s (usually healeys).
The brake pulsation could be pad material transfer. When the brakes are cold (like first drive of the morning) do they feel fine? until you get on the freeway and have to use the brakes from higher speeds or once they warm up, then they pulsate. Getting worse as they get hotter.
If it does, then it's most likely pad transfer. It's easy enough to fix, have the rotors turned ever slightly to remove the pad material. or you can spray water on the rotors and then scrub the crap out of them
but that takes a long time and it's a pain to the the back side. Next remove the brake pads and take a tiny bit off the top, with a sand paper. You will most likely have some glazing on the pad.
Once done, properly bed the pads and the rotors in. To do this find a long stretch of road (empty preferably). Then accelerate to 30mph, and apply the brakes slowly until you slow to about 10mph. repeat 10 times then allow the brakes to cool for about 10mins. then up the speed to about 40mph and repeat.
make sure you don't come to a full stop of slam on the brakes. then use the brakes normally for the next 100-200miles.
provided you don't have anything leaking from the car, most likely you will pass inspection. I hope to see you there

Thanks Rick. I take it this has been a source of info for you? http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...otors_myth.htm
Looks like you're running in the morning on Sunday. If I can make it, maybe I should run in DSP so I can work the course and pick up your cones.
h:
Just kidding. I'll definitely try to make it though.
[edit] I know I would be totally and utterly whooped in DSP.
