Navigation for a 1996
I have a 1996 Acura RL 3.5 without a navigation system. I want to install a factory navigation system. Have anyone tried this before? Among many things, I know I have to buy the dash board panel for RL with navigation, but I've also noticed that the radio, and climate controls are arranged differently. Would I have buy the part that the dash board panel attaches to?

you need the sub frame the gps unit, the gyros, the new ecu, the ant. a/c vents the hard drive reader which is obsolite and now your looking at over 5k$ of stuff. the hard drive sucks in area of maps, another downside to the 96 navi is the hard card (pc card) is that it only holds 540mb of info. which is about northen cal. the new sytle is a dvd rom which holds the US at 6 gig's. Don't spend the money buy a aftermarket unit that plays cds mp3 and so forth. you save alot more and get a better bang for the buck
timothybeeler,
Thanks for your reply. I looked at the aftermarket option, and you're right. For under 1K, I can get a car computer with 9Gigs of computer space, a gps receiver with internal antenna, a touch screen monitor, and a guy in NYC can make a custom fit dash trim panel for about ~$100 bucks. I still wanna have the same set up as if it had a factory navigation unit. I believe this means I would only need a new ECU, and a/c vents. What else would I need?
