There's a few JDM kits that are available. You can check them out at http://www.legend.ac Go to "afterparts" and then "KA9". The only headlight modifications I know of is to paint the chrome housing black. I did that on my 97.. not on the 99 yet. There's also headlight eyebrow trim available for the 96-98 and 99-02 RL's/honda-Legend.

This is what the JDM headlights with black housing looks like.

My previous car with the black housing.

I like your ride dogg. I responded to your pictures on another forum. I have a 96 RL that used to have 19's on it. I think it was dropped about 1.5" in the front and about 1.2" in the back, it sits better that way, you should drop your 99. Since you have owned both models, do you think an older RL can be converted to the new front end of the newer model? How did you get the lens off to paint the lights, I have taken the entire housing off to clear out the fog lights.

When I had the 97, I wanted to convert mine to the 99+ style, however I just traded mine in to get the 99. Anyway here's what needs to be changed:
- headlamps(with HID lights, ballast etc..)
- front bumper with chrome trim(and foglights)
- Front hood/grille/side fenders
- Side moldings
- Rear bumper with chrome trim/tail lamps

For the trunk, it is possible to use your 97 I THINK. If you notice on your 97 where there's the small chrome trim surrounding the license plate area... that can pop out(not sure how hard it is)..and can be replaced with the 99 style pop in with the fat chrome garnish. The only difference I noticed with the actual trunk is the small lip at the base of the trunk(where the trunk meets the rear bumper). Try look on ebay for closeup pics of various RL's.

That's just the exterior components. I'm not sure if any support systems behind the bumers etc.. need to be changed. If you do it.. the foglights can be wired the blank button you have to the lower left of your console.(That's where it is for the 99+).

Considering all this work, and the current value of the RL's.. it might just be cheaper to upgrade. There were over 300 modifications made between these two body styles. Major ones include side airbags, new steering wheel, stock HID's, different cupholders, and the agressive styling.

I grabbed my '99 a while back for $21K with 40K miles on the odometer. The KBB value at the time was 31K. The "true market value" is drastically lower than the KBB for RL's....they just don't hold their re-sale value. It's good for the consumer since you get a well built and reliable luxo car for a good price.

As for the housing.. I took apart everything. The chrome inserts just pop out in which I primed it a few times and coated it with black automotive paint. Hope this helps.

I tried this weekend to take off the headlight housing. I remembered it was hard the last time and I had to fight with the bumper, I didn't want to take a chance and break any supports, is there any easy way to do it, such as loosening up the bumper, etc. I figured you would know an easier way.

To take off the headlamp housing, the front bumper cover needs to be removed. It should be fairly simple when you remove the clips and screws. There's one on each side(inner fender), about 5 clips in the center(where the grill of the hood comes down to meet the bumer), and a few underneath. After that, the bumper cover just pops off. Then you'll see these bolts to remove the headlamps...I believe it's 4-5 for each lamp. It should pop out after that.. let me know....
