Legend Shift lock question?

I have a 95' legend and it has a key hole on the gear shifter and by the hole, it says shift lock. What is this for and how do I use this?

It's only used to unlock the gear selector lever for when a FWD car is towed from behind. It's nothing performance related.

Thanks, I thought it would lock my gears to prevent people from stealing it.
