Default advance timing

i have a 99 gsr and want to advance the timing. what is a safe adjustment? can i do it without a timing light?

No, you can't do it without a timing light.

One other thing to keep in mind is that since your car is OBD-II ('96 or newer) the ECU will eventually "learn" that you've advanced the timing and compensate for the adjustment.

is it true that OBDII corrects the timing by itself, so you should never mess with it?
