i have a 97 gsr and i just put a new KOYO racing radiator in it. when i first start up my car car let it warm up and i drive around for a while the temp stays normal, then when i floor it the temp drops down really far ( stock temp gauge ). is this normal? this only happens when the car is just warmed up. now the main thing i wanted to question is, when i drive on the freeway for a while my temp goes up higher than normal. usualy its a little below the middle point, but at times it goes a little past the middle point. as soon as i turn the heat on the temp drops back to normal. then i slide the nob back to the blue area ( cool ) and the temp stays normal for a while then raises back up past the middle point again. i have my cooling fan hooked up to a manual switch and i have the fan on most of the time, but it doesnt seem to help. im sure the fan is blowing the correct way.
any responces will help.

im no expert but im going to have to say thats not normal and you should probably get it fixed

 

by the way, the radiator and overflow resivor is full and fresh with anti freeze and water. thanks for the input

You might have some air trapped in the system try to bleed it.

 

how do i bleed it? run the engine with the radiator cap off?

 

coolant purge valve...

 

There is a bleeder on the front of the block its on the pass. side of the front of the block. Its a 10mm bolt with a little nipple on it.

 

use a 10 mm open end or socket to loosen the bleeder bolt, you can find it by following your upper radiator hose towards the block, the bleed bolt is clearly visible on the water outlet cover which is what your radiator hose connects to, fill up your radiator, run your engine, loosen up bleed bolt.. when you see a steady stream of coolant with no air bubbles than tighten.. I heard the newer models dont have a bleeder bolt.. :shrug:

 

Oh yeah its best to do it with the engine running.

 

i don't think that block has the bleeder nut on it... from a cold engine, start it with the radiator cap off and purge all the air bubbles out of it by letting your car warm up.having your reservoir filled will not get rid of the bubbles. :thumbup:
