Default Illegal California custom turbo questions

I am interested in installing a custom turbo setup in my 01 gsr. I live in CA so I know it will be illegal. Once I have it installed I will have to remove it for smog testing. Can someone please comment on this idea? is is wise? Is it worth the time/energy?
Whats the liklyhood of getting a ticket for not being carb legal?
When switching back to stock setup for a smog test, will I need to remove the inline fuel pump/injectors?
Are there any tricks to making this easier?

Thanks.

What I would do is get your car smogged first without the custom built turbo. Then after you pass smog, build the turbo. This way you wouldn't need to smog your car until the 2 years is up. By then, you'll probably have different plans for the car or something.

hmm.I haven't heard of a custom turbo being CA smog legal yet, that's why I chose a supercharger. Greddy was the only one I know pending a CARB exemption. You could always pay someone to pass you.

Greddy has CARB certified kits for the GS-R and the RS/LS/GS range. Check them out at www.greddy.com  They are a wee bit more expensive, but will pass the visual inspection for CA smog, because of their respective EO numbers. So boost away.

I'd recommend running a Greddy kit. That way, instead of uninstalling the whole damn thing for smog, you can just remove your modifications (BOV, IC...)

Greddy does not work on a 2001 GSR. I have talked to them. The only FI way to go is a supercharger. I am a DIY guy so I think a custom turbo setup would be the cheapest and most fun. Considering this any comments? help? advice?
