Default Painting my stock front strut bar...

I'm painting my black, stock strut bar to match my exterior paint. The reason I don't want to just replace the strut bar for one of those dc sport ones is because in my opinion, stock strut > all aftermarket, and besides, it's much cheaper to repaint. So I have the paint already, but I thought for the smoothest look, I should take off the old, black paint (pls correct me if I'm wrong). What is the best way to remove it? Thanks.

use a coat or two of primer, or atleast an adhesion promoter before painting it.
