Default advanced timing - making odd sound

i advanced my 94 gsr's timing from 16 to 18degrees. It feels a bit faster, but it makes a "pshh" sound now for a split second when I punch the gas. Only at the very instant I hit the pedal. It does not sound like pinging. It sounds like air escaping/sucking through the air intake.
Any idea why? tia

I didn't answer over on the other board because I can't hear the sound for myself. Everyone's going off in all kinds of directions about it, but I bet they can't hear it either.

Sounds like intake noise, but are you sure you didn't change anything there? If it's intake noise it would be the same as before you changed your timing.

I bet if you get under the hood & open the throttle by hand, you can tell exactly where the sound is coming from. An open intake sounds like that, but I don't understand why it should change with timing. The factory intake muffles that sound with the air box & that funny resonator bottle hanging on the intake tube.

thanks for replying. I am sure I didnt change anything in the intake vicinity, unless somehow I inadvertently affected it while messing with the distributor. I suppose that is a possibility.

I'm going to put the timing back to stock and see if the sound is still there.

well, i put it back to 16degrees and it's still there. I must have done something to the intake area.

Or maybe the sound's been there all along but now you're paying attention...

Do you have an intake or did you remove that air box down in the fender?

Ive had a short ram for some time now. I would have noticed it. and especially since i was punching the gas getting the engine warmed up just before doing the timing adjustment.

when tuning up my 91 integra (non- vetec motor) i advanced the timing to a point where the motor ran good, but i also had that strange sucking sound when i accelerated, not knowing if it was damaging i retarded the timing and everything went back to normal.

my first(stupid) thought was that the fuel air mixture was igniting while the intake valves where still open forcing air back out....but that is impossible because the motor would not be running at that kind of advance... it would take like 90 degrees of advance i think...

I am only writing so you know that you are not alone and are not crazy... i still dont know what that noise was.
