Default checking oil

HOW DO YOU DO IT? I let it run for a few minutes then let it sit for a few then check it on level ground. . my gf's dad saw me doing that and he said its wrong- that i should check it when its been sitting for hours not after it was just running . . what way should i do it?

even if i let my car sit for an hour, its still not the same as 3 hours. the difference is as much as half a quart on the indicators.

best time to check your oil level is in the morning when before you start your car. The full level is supposed to indicate how much oil should be in your engine once it has drained from every nook and cranny down into the oil pan.

Your gf's dad is correct, you're doing it wrong.

Let it run to check transmission fluid, you want it as cold as possible for oil because ti oil will stay in the engine so it will not be correct.

Yeah that's correct, I let it run before I change the oil.
