Default battery in trunk or engine bay

i've seen some people relocate their battery to the trunk. what are the benefits and concerns about doing this?

Its just a way to balance out the weight distribution, also some people might not have enough room in their engine bay because of swaps, turbos or something else like that.

For a daily driver, it's not a neccessity to do. If you track your car and your weight distribution counts, then you could look at changing the location.

down side, you have to run a big fat cable back to the engine area.

the reason i'm asking is that, when i bought a used integra, the battery was already in the trunk. i'm planning to move it back because i don't like the messy relocation job. but, i'm just trying to figure out why it was back there in the first place. my best guess is not for performance reasons, but because the previous owner had a big stereo system back there, and it needed a power source.

that could be another reason. was an extra one put back there? or just the normal one that powers everything else?

the one in the trunk is the only battery in the car. there are massive wires running from the trunk, through the frame, to the engine bay. there was another set of (disconnected) wires coming from the terminals that looked like they might have powered a sound system.

if you ask me there is no performance benefit either, as it is fwd, you can acctually use the weight up front to help with traction, also cant understand how or why they would have put it in the hatch for stereo since they would still have to run wires back up front to the alt and other components, i have no idea what the benefit would be

Only benfit of moving the battery is getting an optima or other standard sized batteries instead of the thin one that fits in the stock position under the hood. Thats pretty much it.
