When I start my car after it is cold, my valves tap very audibly until the car warms up- it started after I went back to regular Castrol GTX from Syntec. Any thoughts?

 

My car also does it and rather loudly while warming up. Even right after a valve adjustment it still made a slight ticking. Acura techs said that its better to hear a tick then not one at all... Its just the design of the engine

Mine made the louder ticking noise too shortly after cold starting, but after adjusting the valve clearances, it is much quieter. My Hayne's manual suggests adjusting the valve clearances every 50k or so (I think).

 

Just hope the ticking doesn't get unbearably loud and sound like your engine is about to explode. I had the same problem at first, light ticking when it started up, then it became a louder ticking only when it was hot, and now its a superloud ticking all the time. Good luck

 

mine ticks all the time...dunno y...but when i unplug the speedo wire in the engine bay it doesnt make that noise ne more...
