Default damage from valve adjustment?

i forgot to ask - a few weeks ago i put in a new valve cover gasket and a new cam plug everything went fine and i fixed my leaks but when the head was off i noticed horrible scoring on the inside edges of the head - at first i thought something at one time was loose in there and bounced aroudn and broke everything but i figured that wasn't too likely .. but what it looks like is whoever adjusted the valves last (dealer) tried to fit a crowbar in there or something because there are huge gouges along the sides . .is that typical? next time i have my cover off i'll take some pics and post it - we also tore apart a g2 teg with 250,000 miles on it and it had scratches but not deep ruts like mine. my luck they probably had a newb working on it

prolly used a screwdriver to pry the head off, instead of a rubber mallet to tap it off
