No real need to downshift during daily driving unless you are on an incline and/or carrying alot of cargo. Use brakes all the way instead.

It still shouldnt be loose though. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. Like the stick won't stay in gear or what?

what is loose? the shifter goes into the gate smoothly?

Plenty of reasons to downshift in normal daily driving- what do you do? Slip the clutch every time you need to be in a lower gear?

I prefer downshifting over Riding the brakes all day... plus goin down hills is another time I do.

Example of downshifting feeling loose:
when going from 4rth to 3rd right inbetween the two gears i can feel the "gate" on the sides. Normally it would be a little tighter

Hmm, sounds fine to me. 4th to 3rd for me feels the same way as you describe. Unless you are having trouble getting into gears its fine.

I used to downshift when stopping but after I ruined my transmission, no more. I'd rather replace brake pads for $50 than pay for a tranmission that cost $1k, or even just to replace prematurely worn synchros. The only time, I feel, one would need to downshift in traffic is to rev-match taking a turn, incliment weather and stepping on the brakes may get you loose, or as stated above, moving cargo.

I remember my old transmission felt loose in my GSR, and after I blew the bearings and replaced the entire thing, the shifter had a more tight feel. It could possibly be normal wear and tear or machinery may be a hair out of spec. Those are just my experiences though..

Transmission = Go
Brakes = Stop

Transmission try to make car stop = Bad
