Default "2nd hand turbos......"

Well guys im looking to put a turbo in my car like the rest of you, but unfortunately my wallet is a bit strained at the moment. So it looks like I'm gonna have to go with a "junkyard" turbo. I have a friend who put one on his talon, and runs low 14s now. My question is for anyone who has gone the "junkyard" route........Im looking for a turbo that fully spools under 3,000 rpm, but doesnt necessarily have to have monstrous output. What cars have the best stock turbos, so I can know what to look for in the junkyard, and what should I check in the turbo, to make sure it is still in good condition ?

I'm leary of second-hand or even rebuilt turbines. I had one blow out the seals (a turbonetics t3/04e .57") and its replacement (same make and model) has the seals starting to go as well. You really do get what you pay for.

If you dont know your sh*t...piecing together a turbo kit is not a good idea. Just try and pick up a used Drag kit...they usually go for around $2k.

They are the stock turbo on 2nd gen DSM's, yes. Turbos can be rebuilt and still perform well I think, just 1) know what you're doing. 2) buy a quality rebuild parts/kit 3) get it done professionally.

the T-25 is good up till about ~13-15 psi, around there its about as effective as a hairdryer. You can T-25's from thunderbirds, Merker's, and something else... forget what it is.

The late 80's Nissan 300z comes with a single T-3, while the newer 90's Z32 has two T-22's.

The t25 isn't a real efficent turbo but it does build boost quickly due to its small size
