I think it's 4.2 quarts for the VTEC.

I use Mobil1 10w30 because I have a leaking camshaft seal and it literally drools from the seal when I'm using 5w30.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've heard some rather shady stuff about fram filters?

Im confused about the 4.2 spec for vtec motors. When I changed the oil on my friends car I put in approx. 4.2 and checked the level on the dipstick and it was still like a quart low . About the fram filters I have heard bad things too. I have heard of them like exploding off, cross threading, and leaking at the o-ring. Thats why I spend 7 bucks on a Honda filter  .

I use 10W-30 for my high mileage engine along with a Honda OEM filter. My engines takes around 4 1/2 quarts of oil.

did you check the oil level immediately after pouring it in? that could be why it read low.

1. Honda Filter
2. Put in 4 quarts
3. Let the car idle and warm up a little before you check the oil level
4. Add oil if necessary

Nope, I let it run for a little to get the oil into the filter, then shut it off, let it sit to let the oil in the head run into the pan, then I checked the oil level. It read on the dipstick a little above the lower dot after pouring about 4.2 quarts in. Had to put about 4.8 to get to top dot. :dunno:

hmmm i have had trouble with fram once too. the O ring didnt come off with the filter and i put the new 1 in w/o knowing. and when i started the car it just started spraying everywhere in the parking lot of a duplex . it was in the neighbors driveway too when i started it. so i had to take the filter and drain all of the new oil out, and clean up the spill but hmm. i think ill spend a few bucks more to get a better filter. i use castrol gtx also, aiming to use 5w30 if not 10 later since my car is still new. also isnt mobil1 synthetic, im not balling so i dont want to spend that extra money since oil changes are so common especially for me. just go to price club and pick up a box for cheap!

it is listed at 4.5 quarts with changing the filter. that is on a warm engine, with plenty of time for the oil to reach the pan.

and not all oils are the same. the "cheap" stuff from price club could be breaking down after only several hundred miles of severe service. "you get what you pay for" still applies here too.
